A lot of the people who need assisted living in Sanjaynagar already live in Sanjaynagar. This is one of north Bengaluru's settled neighbourhoods, between Hebbal, RMV Extension and New BEL Road, where retired scientists, government officers and teachers bought homes decades ago. Their children have often moved to Whitefield, Pune or abroad. When a parent can no longer manage, the kindest option is often a care home a few streets from the house they know, the temple they visit and the darshini they have eaten at for thirty years.
Medical access helps too. M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital is close by, and the large hospitals of Hebbal are just beyond. Elkin lists one assisted living home here, Sumukha's Sanjaynagar branch.

- Help with personal hygiene, from bathing to toileting.

Why medicine management matters so much here
Many residents who come to a home in an area like Sanjaynagar are on six, eight or ten tablets a day, prescribed by different specialists over the years. Missed doses, double doses and drug interactions are a common reason a parent ends up in hospital, and one of the most useful things assisted living does is take that risk away. When you visit Sumukha, or any home:
- Ask who keeps the medicine chart and who gives each dose.
- Ask how often a doctor reviews the full list, and whether a doctor from M S Ramaiah or another nearby hospital visits.
- Ask what happens if your parent refuses a tablet or feels unwell after one.
- Ask how prescriptions are refilled and who pays for medicines.
Our guide to medication management in assisted living goes through the checks in more detail.
It is worth walking the route from the room to the dining area with your parent too. Homes in older neighbourhoods are often converted buildings, so check lifts, ramps and bathroom doors against a walker or wheelchair.
