Assisted living in Wakad: what it is and who it suits
Wakad is where a large part of Pune's working population now lives. Families moved here for Hinjawadi's IT parks, bought flats in the towers along the highway and, in many cases, brought their parents to live with them. Ten years on, those parents are older. A father has had a stroke, a mother's memory is slipping, and with both partners at work, the flat is empty for eleven hours a day. That is when families start looking for assisted living in Wakad.
Assisted living is the step between home and hospital. Your parent lives in a care home with trained caregivers and nurses who help with bathing, dressing, toileting, medicines and moving about, with a doctor visiting and an ambulance ready for emergencies. It suits elders who are not safe alone but do not need to be in a hospital: people recovering after surgery, living with dementia or Parkinson's, left weak after a stroke, or simply too frail to manage.
This page covers the assisted living home in Wakad itself and the nearest alternatives within a short drive, in Tathawade, Pimple Nilakh, Rahatani and Kiwale, so a family on this side of Pune can compare without crossing the city.
What care and services to expect
Most assisted living homes in the Wakad and Pimpri-Chinchwad area are small, nurse-led homes rather than large campuses. A typical day covers:
- Morning care: help to wash, dress and use the toilet, then breakfast and morning medicines.
- Health checks: blood pressure, sugar and other vitals, recorded and shared with the visiting doctor.
- Therapy: physiotherapy several times a week, and in some homes occupational or speech therapy.
- Meals: usually Maharashtrian vegetarian food, adjusted for diabetic, low-salt or soft diets. Ask if your parent prefers food from their home state.
- Afternoons: rest, prayers, television, simple games or group activities.
- Night care: caregivers on duty, with regular rounds for residents who need turning or toileting help.
Higher-dependency residents also get wound care, catheter care, feeding support and palliative care where the home offers it. Our guide on what services are included in assisted living explains what the monthly fee usually covers.

Assisted living vs an old age home vs other care in Wakad
Many families begin by searching for an old age home in Wakad. A traditional old age home offers shelter, meals and company for seniors who manage most things themselves. Assisted living adds nurses, trained caregivers and a care plan for people who need daily help. Several homes around Wakad use "old age home" or "retirement home" in their name but provide assisted living with nursing in practice, so always ask what care is given.
If your parent is fit and wants their own flat, look at independent living in Pune, including retirement communities across the highway in Hinjawadi. If dementia is advanced, with wandering or aggression, compare memory care in Pune. For every type of home, see senior living in Wakad and senior living in Pune.
How to choose assisted living near Wakad
- Map it against your commute. A home on the same side of the highway as your flat or office will be visited far more often.
- Name the hospital. Ask whether the home uses Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital in Thergaon, Ruby Hall Clinic Hinjawadi or another, and time the drive in the evening.
- Ask about night cover. Find out who is awake after 10 PM and how many residents each caregiver looks after.
- Check language and food. Many Wakad families come from other states. Ask which languages caregivers speak and whether the kitchen can cook food your parent is used to.
- See the therapy room. If recovery is the goal, ask how many physiotherapy sessions a week are included.
- Read the agreement. Check the deposit, notice period, extra charges and what happens if needs rise.
