Senior living homes in New Delhi: what families should know
Delhi has a long history of caring for its elders through trusts, religious bodies, service associations and, more recently, private care companies. That history shows in the homes listed here. In south Delhi alone you will find a home built by the Air Force Association for retired servicemen, a dementia home started by a doctor-led NGO, an eco-friendly care campus with its own dementia day care centre, a luxury assisted living home in Vasant Kunj and a spiritual community inside an ashram. Whether you are searching for senior living in New Delhi or for an old age home in Delhi, the city offers more variety than most families expect.

Assisted living in New Delhi is the most common option. These homes help with bathing, dressing, medicines and mobility, with caregivers on duty day and night and doctors visiting or on call. Several also handle recovery after surgery, palliative care and short respite stays.

Independent living in New Delhi suits healthy seniors who want company, meals and security. In Delhi this often takes a community form: a veterans' home in Tughlakabad for physically active seniors from the armed forces, or furnished apartments inside an ashram for seniors who want a spiritual daily routine.

Old age homes in Delhi and senior living homes: the difference
"Old age home in Delhi" is the most searched phrase for elder care in the capital, and it covers a wide range. Free and low-cost homes, run by the Delhi government's social welfare department, charitable trusts and religious organisations, offer shared rooms and basic care for seniors with little income. Paid old age homes and senior living homes charge a monthly fee and offer private or twin rooms, planned meals, activities, caregivers and, in many cases, nursing and dementia care. Delhi also has a strong tradition of pay-and-stay homes run by trusts and associations, which sit between the two. Our article on how many old age homes there are in Delhi gives a wider picture.

Senior living and old age home costs in New Delhi
South Delhi is one of the more expensive places in NCR for elder care, second only to Gurugram. These ranges are approximate; confirm the current fee and what it covers with each home.
- Free and low-cost old age homes in Delhi: free to about ₹12,000 a month at government, trust and religious homes, usually with shared rooms.
- Pay-and-stay trust and association homes: about ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 a month for independent seniors, depending on the room.
- Assisted living in south Delhi: about ₹40,000 to ₹1.2 lakh a month, with luxury homes such as those in Vasant Kunj at the top of the range.
- Dementia, palliative and bedridden care: about ₹60,000 to ₹1.5 lakh a month, because of round-the-clock trained staff.
Most homes take a refundable deposit, and medicines, consumables and a personal attendant are usually extra. Our guide on paying for an old age home when money is tight covers low-cost routes.
What to expect, and how to choose
Most homes serve north Indian vegetarian food, though the veterans' home in Tughlakabad offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Delhi's climate demands air-conditioning in May and June, heating in January, and a plan for the smog season, when residents stay indoors for days. When you compare homes, check these points:
- Eligibility rules. Some homes take only certain residents, such as ex-servicemen, or only seniors who are physically active. Ask before you visit.
- Hospital tie-ups. Ask whether the ambulance goes to Batra, Apollo, Max Saket, Fortis Vasant Kunj or Holy Family, and how long it takes.
- Night staffing. Ask whether a nurse is on site overnight or only on call.
- Dementia safety. For memory care, ask about secure exits, staff training and activity programmes.
- Deposit and exit rules. Know what is refunded and how much notice is needed.
