Lambha is a census town on the southern edge of Ahmedabad, in Daskroi taluka, about 10 km from the old city and just beyond Narol. Most Ahmedabadis know it for the Lambha Baliyadev temple, which draws large crowds on Sundays and festival days. Away from the temple road it is a mix of housing societies, Jain derasars, small industry and open land, and that open land is why one of the city's larger charitable senior homes has been able to grow here.
Senior living in Lambha means a trust-run campus with space, gardens and a strong religious routine, at a cost far below the private homes in the west. It suits seniors who want a peaceful, satvik way of life among people of their own age. Elkin lists the home and can take you on a guided visit.
Jivandhara Old Age Home
Jivandhara Old Age Home is run by the Manav Seva Samaj Kalyan Trust in Padmavati Nagar, opposite the Jain derasar in the Indira Nagar part of Lambha. It was started in 2002 by the late Champaklal G. Shah, who donated more than two acres of land for it. The home began with five rooms, a dining hall, a mandir and a garden, and has since grown into two blocks: the first with 22 rooms and the second with 28, along with an entertainment room with a gym, a barber's room and a hall for swadhyay, or religious study.
Two features make Jivandhara unusual for a charitable home. It keeps rooms for married couples, so husband and wife can stay together, and it accepts residents on bed rest along with their own caretaker. Its care list includes help with personal hygiene, daily health monitoring, trained caregivers, physiotherapy, recovery support after a hospital stay, memory care support and palliative care. Meals are satvik and vegetarian. Rooms are furnished and wheelchair accessible, with Wi-Fi and power backup.
When you visit, ask what a caretaker must arrange for a bed-rest resident, how medical emergencies are handled at night, and whether there is a waiting list for couples' rooms.
Life on the southern edge of the city
- Hospitals. LG Hospital in Maninagar is the nearest large hospital, about a 20 to 30 minute drive depending on traffic, and there are smaller private hospitals around Narol and Isanpur.
- Faith close at hand. With the Baliyadev temple, local Jain derasars and the home's own mandir, residents can keep up daily worship without travelling.
- Room to breathe. The campus has more open ground than a city home, so residents can walk in the garden in the early morning before the heat sets in.
- Visiting. Lambha is about 12 km from Kalupur railway station and roughly 22 km from the airport, so family from the city can reach it easily by road.
What senior living in Lambha costs
Lambha is among the cheapest parts of Ahmedabad for senior care. Trust-run homes in south and east Ahmedabad usually cost from nothing to about ₹10,000 a month, and some ask for a donation or deposit at admission. A couple's room or a private room usually costs more than a shared one. For comparison, paid independent living in Ahmedabad costs about ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 a month, and dementia or bedridden care with full nursing about ₹35,000 to ₹80,000. Treat these as approximate and confirm the current charges with the trust. Our guide to old age homes for couples covers what to check when parents want to stay together.
