Senior living homes in Vadodara: what families should know
Vadodara has a different senior care scene from Ahmedabad or Surat. Instead of large retirement townships, most senior living homes in Vadodara are small, medically led care homes, several of them run by doctors and healthcare professionals, that look after parents recovering from a stroke, living with dementia or needing help through the day. Alongside them sit a few long-running charitable homes and one purpose-built independent living community. If you are searching for an old age home in Vadodara for a parent who now needs more care than the family can give at home, this city has more specialist options than its size suggests.
Elkin lists 11 verified senior living homes in Vadodara, the city many families still call Baroda. Our team has checked each one for registration, care staff, safety and transparent pricing, and we can arrange a guided visit to any home on this page. Elkin is a primary member of the Association of Senior Living India (ASLI), the national body for senior living standards.
Types of senior living homes in Vadodara
The homes on this page fall into three groups, and most of them lean towards care rather than lifestyle.
Assisted living in Vadodara is the largest group by far. These homes suit seniors who need daily help with bathing, dressing, medicines and walking, and many of them also run as rehabilitation centres after a hospital stay. Several accept residents with Parkinson's, the after-effects of a stroke, or tracheostomy and oxygen needs. The four Kadji Care homes, Dear Zindagi Senior Care, Jatan The Care, Ekta's Carehome Foundation and Vatsalya Senior Living all work this way. See assisted living homes in Vadodara →
Dementia and memory care in Vadodara is mostly offered inside these assisted living homes rather than in separate memory care buildings. Ask each home how many residents with dementia it looks after, whether doors and exits are secured, and how staff handle evening restlessness. Our guide to assisted living for dementia patients explains what good dementia care looks like.
Independent living in Vadodara suits seniors who are still active and want their own space with meals, security and company. Athashri Vadodara, by the Pune developer Paranjape Schemes, is a gated community of two-bedroom homes for seniors, with a pool and garden. Vanaprastha Mandir at the Muni Seva Ashram in Goraj offers a simpler, spiritual way of life in the countryside. See independent living homes in Vadodara →
Old age homes and senior living homes in Vadodara: the difference
Most families begin by searching for an old age home in Vadodara, and the city does have charitable and samaj-run homes, many in the older parts of the city such as Nizampura and Warasiya. These usually offer shared rooms, simple vegetarian meals and basic supervision, for little or no fee, and places are limited.
A senior living home is built around a different promise: a private or semi-private room, planned meals, housekeeping, activities and trained caregivers, with nurses and a visiting doctor in the care-focused homes. In Vadodara the line is blurred, because several homes that call themselves old age homes actually run round-the-clock nursing for bedridden residents. Judge a home by the care it gives, not by its name. Elkin lists both kinds, so you can compare a trust-run home with a private care home before you decide.
Best areas for senior living in Vadodara
Vadodara's senior homes sit mostly in the west and south-west of the city, where newer housing, wider roads and the big private hospitals are. Here is how the areas compare.
Race Course and Old Padra Road. The best-served part of the city for medical care, with Sterling Hospital on Race Course Road and the Baroda Heart Institute near Race Course Circle. Dear Zindagi Senior Care is in Race Course, and the Kadji Care centre is in Punit Nagar on Old Padra Road, near Akota. Alkapuri, Akota and Productivity Road families find this belt the closest.
Gotri and Sevasi. A quieter residential stretch running west along Gotri Road towards the city's edge, with the government GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Gotri. Kadji Care - Kadji Villa 2 is in Gotri, and Swarg Community Care (Sevasi), a large nursing home for bedridden and terminally ill seniors, is on Gotri-Sevasi Road behind Priya Cinema in Sevasi. Vasna-Bhayli families usually look here first.
Tandalja and Kalali in the south-west. Growing suburbs with more space and slightly lower costs. Kadji Care - Kadji Villa 1 is a villa home on Tandalja Road, and the Kadji Care rehabilitation centre in Kalali (Kadji Care, Kalali) lists the widest medical support in the group, including stroke and coma care.
Fatehgunj and central Vadodara. An older, central neighbourhood close to the railway station, the MS University area and SSG Hospital. Jatan The Care in Fatehgunj suits families in Sayajigunj, Alkapuri, Nizampura and the north of the city.
Dabhoi Road and the east. Ekta's Carehome Foundation is in Akshar City, a large housing township on the Dabhoi Road side of the city, and is a practical choice for families in Manjalpur, Makarpura and the eastern suburbs.
Goraj and the countryside. Well outside the city, near Waghodia, the Muni Seva Ashram runs Vanaprastha Mandir on a large green campus with its own cancer hospital. Read about senior living in Goraj.
Two homes do not yet show an area on their listings: Vatsalya Senior Living, a hospital-backed assisted living home, and Athashri Vadodara. Ask our advisors for their exact locations before you plan a visit.
Senior living and old age home costs in Vadodara
Fees in Vadodara run a little below Ahmedabad, but they still depend on the level of care, the room and the part of the city. Use these approximate ranges as a starting point, and confirm the current fee and what it covers with each home.
- Charitable and trust-run old age homes in Vadodara: free to about ₹8,000 a month, usually with shared rooms and vegetarian meals.
- Independent senior living, paid monthly: about ₹12,000 to ₹30,000 a month.
- Assisted living in Vadodara: about ₹22,000 to ₹50,000 a month, with Race Course, Old Padra Road and Gotri at the upper end and Kalali, Tandalja and Dabhoi Road a little lower.
- Dementia, bedridden and post-hospital care: about ₹30,000 to ₹70,000 a month, since these residents need nursing round the clock. Oxygen, suction or tracheostomy care can push the fee higher.
- Buying into a senior community: about ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh for a home in an independent living community such as Athashri, plus a monthly maintenance charge.
Expect extra charges for a one-to-one attendant, physiotherapy sessions beyond the plan, medicines, diapers and other consumables, and hospital transfers. Most homes take a refundable deposit at admission. Our guide on how much assisted living costs in India shows how Vadodara compares with other cities.
Daily life in a Vadodara senior home: food, climate and language
Almost every home on this page serves vegetarian food, and several describe their kitchens as sattvic. Expect Gujarati thali meals of dal, bhaat, shaak and rotli, with softer, low-salt and diabetic versions for residents who need them. Jain meals are usually possible on request. If your parent eats meat or eggs, raise it on the first call.
Vadodara's summers are hot, often above 40°C in May, and the monsoon brings heavy rain. The city flooded badly in 2019 and again in 2024 when the Vishwamitri River overflowed, so ask how the home managed during those weeks, where the power backup sits and whether residents were moved.
Staff speak Gujarati and Hindi, and the doctor-run homes usually have English-speaking nurses and managers. Navratri is a big event in Baroda, and many homes celebrate it with residents, along with Diwali, Uttarayan and birthdays. Daily routines include medicine rounds, physiotherapy, prayers, television time and family visits.
How to choose the right senior living home in Vadodara
The best old age home in Vadodara is the one that matches your parent's health today and over the next year. These checks are specific to this city.
- Match the home to the medical need. Vadodara's homes differ widely: some focus on stroke and coma rehabilitation, some on bedridden and palliative care, some on lighter assisted living. Share recent discharge papers before you visit.
- Ask about doctor visits and the hospital tie-up. Find out how often a doctor comes, and whether the ambulance goes to Sterling, the Baroda Heart Institute, GMERS Gotri or SSG Hospital.
- Check the monsoon record. Ask what happened during the 2024 floods and whether the ground floor stayed dry.
- Count the night staff. Ask how many caregivers and nurses are on duty after 10 PM for the number of residents.
- See the physiotherapy space. Rehabilitation-led homes should show you equipment and a therapist's timetable.
- Read the deposit and exit terms. Our guide on whether an old age home deposit is refundable lists what to ask.
