Madukkarai is a town in south-west Coimbatore on the national highway to Palakkad, about 15 km from the city centre. For generations it was known for its cement works and limestone quarries, but the countryside around it has always been green, with the Western Ghats and the Walayar forests to the west and farms along the Pollachi side. Madukkarai for daily living
- Hospitals. Madukkarai has local clinics. The large private hospitals in the city are usually 25 to 40 minutes away up the highway via Kuniamuthur or Podanur. Ask the community which hospital it uses in an emergency.
- A good road. The Palakkad highway gives a direct route into Ukkadam and the city, and towards Kerala for families in Palakkad, Thrissur or Kochi.
- Temples and outings. The Eachanari Vinayagar temple on the Pollachi road and the Perur temple are both within a comfortable drive.
- Weather. The Palakkad Gap brings a steady breeze through this part of the district, which keeps evenings pleasant.

Land on the southern edge of Coimbatore costs less than in the western suburbs, and that usually shows in prices.
