Palanahalli is a village on the Yelahanka side of north Bengaluru, where the city's layouts give way to farms, nurseries and open land. It shares Yelahanka's PIN code and much of its character: wide skies, quieter roads and a slower pace than the city centre, with the airport road and Yelahanka's markets close enough for everyday needs. For senior living in Palanahalli, the setting is part of the appeal. Residents get calm surroundings and natural light, while families in north Bangalore can still visit without a long trip.
Elkin lists one home here, a charitable senior citizens home built and run by a Rotary trust. It is one of the newer charitable homes in the city, and one of the better designed.
Rotary Orchards Chaitanya Senior Citizens Home
Rotary Orchards Chaitanya Senior Citizens Home, often shortened to ROCSCH, is run by the Rotary Bangalore Orchards Trust and opened in 2018. It is a charitable initiative, but it was built to a modern standard. The architects used courtyards and skylights to bring daylight deep into the building, an approach chosen because good light helps residents' mood and alertness, especially those with memory problems.
Care is aimed at seniors who are mostly independent but need a steady hand:
- help with personal hygiene, daily health monitoring and medicines,
- physiotherapy and a gym for keeping mobile,
- memory care support for residents with dementia or Parkinson's, and
- trained caregivers and an emergency response system.
Rooms have attached bathrooms with non-skid tiles, safety grab bars, emergency call buttons, cupboard space and ceiling fans. The building is wheelchair accessible, with a stretcher lift for residents who need to be moved lying down. Meals are vegetarian and served in a central dining hall, and there is a kitchen garden, landscaped gardens, a yoga and meditation hall, a prayer hall and spiritual centre, a library and an entertainment room.
