Rattinamangalam, also spelt Rathinamangalam, is a suburb on the Vandalur to Kelambakkam road, a few kilometres east of Vandalur and the zoo. It sits close to Kandigai and Melakottaiyur, and is known locally for the Tagore group's engineering and medical colleges. A few years ago this was mostly farmland; now new layouts and apartment projects line the road, drawn by its position between GST Road and OMR.
Senior living in Rattinamangalam is new. It suits retirees who want a modern flat at a lower price than the city, with the countryside around them and both the GST Road and OMR within reach.
Elements Kamalam, Rattinamangalam
Elements Kamalam is an independent living community for seniors, developed by GT Bharathi Urban Developers. Public project details describe a compact campus off the Vandalur to Kelambakkam road near Kandigai, with about 110 homes in a ground-plus-five building, offered as 1 and 1.5 BHK flats designed for older residents.
The listing covers the support most independent seniors want in place: daily health monitoring, emergency response, medical care and physiotherapy. There is a garden and power backup. Homes are sold rather than rented, so this is a long-term move.
The project has been described as under construction. Before paying, check the RERA registration, the promised possession date, who will operate the senior services once residents move in, and what the monthly maintenance covers. GT Bharathi has other Elements senior communities in the Vandalur belt, so it is worth visiting a completed one to see how daily services work in practice. Compact 1 BHK homes are easy for one person or a couple to keep, and a building designed for seniors from the start usually has lifts, grab rails and step-free entrances that ordinary apartments lack. Our guide on moving to a senior living community lists the paperwork to check.
Life on the Vandalur to Kelambakkam road
- A hospital nearby. Tagore Medical College and Hospital is in Rathinamangalam itself. For more specialist care, Chettinad Health City in Kelambakkam lies east along the same road, and the hospitals of Tambaram and Chromepet are west via GST Road.
- Between two corridors. The road links Vandalur and GST Road in the west with Kelambakkam and OMR in the east, so family on either side of the city can reach the area.
- Rail and buses. Vandalur railway station and the large Kilambakkam bus terminus on GST Road are a short drive away, with suburban trains and long-distance buses.
- Quiet and green. The Vandalur reserve forest and the zoo are close, and the air is cleaner than in the city. Shops and services are still limited, so check what the community provides on site.
